Loughgall 1-4 Dundela Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 03/05/2013

Dundela finished the season of in style with a comprehensive defeat of lowly Loughgall. William Faulkner with a brace and one each from the leagues leading marksman Ben Roy and Kyle Cherry done the business for Mark Snodden’s men.

The Duns were quick out of the blocks and took the lead on 18 minutes through Ben Roy and were totally dominant in the remainder of the half whilst Loughgall were lucky to still have 11 players on the pitch after two dreadful tackles on Scott Collins and Jamie Jackson with the former having to retire shortly after the break.

Dundela’s dominance was fully shown with two further goals through William Faulkner before half time.

HT 0-3

The home side pulled one back soon after the restart but never troubled The Duns in the remainder of the game as they easily coasted to the end of the game and even added to their lead through Kyle Cherry with a minute remaining.

Indeed Dundela could have finished the season of in style when super sub striker Rab Bailie fired narrowly wide with a blistering strike after some neat build up play in added on time.

FT 1-4

Dundela

Subs Cardwell, Walker, Bailie, Hughes.

Dundela 4-4 Limavady United Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 20/04/20

Dundela conceding early goals is an all too regular occurrence and it happened again in this game with Limavady.

With barely 30 seconds gone Patrick capitalized on a hesitant back four to prod home.

That goal did bring The Duns to life and soon after Faulkner headed over before he did find the net on 12 minutes with a fine strike.

Ben Roy then put the home side in front mid way through the half with another classy finish from the leagues leading marksman.

Dundela were now in control and both Roy and Faulkner had chances to increase the lead before United levelled when the ball was bundled in after a free kick had Hughes scrambling to keep it out.

HT 2-2

The second half started much the same as the first with the visitors scoring soon after the re start when Browne headed in totally unchallenged from six yards before Mark McClelland netted minutes later.

Dundela were rocked again just passed the hour mark when they conceded another headed goal. Once again Dundela hit back through McClelland and this time it was no tap in. The big striker picked up the ball some thirty yards from goal and unleashed a ferocious shot past Doey.

Ben Roy thought he had won the game for The Duns late on but was penalized for a foul on the keeper, and so the points were shared in this entertaining final home game of the season.

FT 4-4

Dundela

Dundela 2-2 Ards Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 16/04/2013

Cameramen and reporters alike flooded into Wilgar Park to witness Ards clinching the Championship 1 title tonight but a brave battling Dundela side denied them the victory which would have secured the title.

Mark Snodden’s pre match talk was surely made easier with all the hype surrounding the game enough to ensure his young side put in the sort of performance that has been seen on many occasions this season.

Ards got of to the dream start with a goal from Kyle McDowell on two minutes and were causing The Duns lots of problems particularly from corners.

It took Dundela a while to get into their stride but when they did it was leading marksman Ben Roy who levelled with a fine free kick mid way through the half.

HT 1-1

On the hour mark Ards thought they had got the goal which would have delivered the title and as the clocked ticked down their supporters were ready to party but again they were denied by Roy who notched his second of the game to deny them.

Indeed The Duns could have won the game near the finish as attack after attack almost produced the killer goal.

Dundela gained a quick revenge for their defeat at the hands of Rangers four days earlier with this much needed in a marvelous encounter at Wilgar Park.

Things didn’t get off to a good start once again as Carrick took the lead within the opening ten minutes and Duns fans feared the worst.

They needn’t have fretted though as Dundela levelled on the half hour mark through a David Murphy penalty and soon after the live wire Ben Roy netted his first of the afternoon.

Then before the break Roy scored his second, after a superb passing exchange the Young striker fired an unstopable shot past Steele in the Carrick goal.

HT 3-1

Rangers began the second half on the attack and soon got a goal back through Dick but within ten minutes the two goal lead was restored when Roy netted again to complete his hat trick and five minutes later the work horse that is Mark McClelland added a fifth for Dundela with a smart finish after rounding Steele.

Dick did pull a goal back for Carrick near the end but it was merely a consolation.

Dundela suffered a first half collapse against Carrick to concede three goals, all this despite a promising start with Kyle Cherry coming close.

Meanwhile Paul Hughes had to be at his best to prevent the home side taking an early lead with two smart saves.

However two goals in three minutes saw his efforts in vain and Carrick added a third on the half hour mark to send The Duns in to the break with some thinking to do.

HT 3-0

Dundela did put on a better show in the second half but could not break through despite their best efforts and the game pettered out in virtual darkness.

Dundela’s defeat at the hands of town had manager Mark Snodden finally admitting their title prospects were over.

With barely a minute gone The Duns were behind and two further goals were added in a first half that was disappointing to say the least, with Kyle Cherry adding to that disappointment by missing a penalty.

HT 3-0

The second half was a better showing after Snodden made three changes at the break. Two goals from Jonathan Gilliland and a penalty from Gourley added some resistance although the home side scored twice more as Dundela were left exposed at the back as they chased the game.
