Ten man Duns see off Leisure

Sport & Leisure Swifts 1-3 Dundela Away 16/09/17 Steel & Sons Cup Round 3

Dundela produced a stunning performance to see off fellow Premier Intermediate League side Sport & Leisure Swifts to move in to the 4th round of the Steel & Sons Cup.
Despite being down to ten men for an hour it was the Wilgar men who prevailed against the west Belfast men.
With young Oliver Fleetham making his debut in the Dundela goal and Stephen McCain making his first start of the season the away side started well, passing the ball around confidently on the heavy pitch.
However it was Swifts who made the breakthrough against the run of play when the Dundela defence was caught out and soon after the Wilgar men found themselves a man short when captain McClelland was red carded when a Swifts player conned the referee by claiming that he had been struck in the face. Despite the official not seeing the incident he produced a red card.
Nevertheless Dundela continued to press forward but were being halted at every move by some blatant body checking and robust challenges by the home defence. That was until winger Daniel Burns decided to unleash a fierce shot from distance which flew into the net.
HT 1-1
As in the first half it was The Duns who were the more attack minded but Swifts were using all their know how to thwart them.
It was the ten man Duns who got the vital second goal when Jordan Hughes fired them in front but more was to come from the in form striker.
With Dundela looking ever more dangerous Hughes picked up the ball just inside the Swifts half and off he went on a run with defenders trying to bring him down he simply shrugged them off to square the ball for McMaster to fire in to leave the away fans celebrating.
Despite Swifts best efforts they simply could not  break though the superb Dundela backline well marshalled by the impressive Jay Magee and it was The Duns who went through to the next round for an encounter with Immaculata.
FT 1-3
