Dundela 2-1 Knockbreda 14/04/2012 Championship2.
Dee Wright was the hero for Dundela in this must win game against league leaders Knockbreda.
With the referee looking at his watch deep into added on time Wright struck at the back post with his and Dundela’s second goal to send the home fans and players alike wild with joy.
Manager Mark Snodden sent his men out knowing that only victory would do if they were to keep promotion hopes alive. The home side started well and went in front when Wright found himself unmarked in the box to slot home on 6 minutes.
The match was being played at a frenetic pace and it was clear that both sides wanted the points with ‘breda determined to level as soon as possible, and level they did on 24 minutes when Montgomery headed in after a well delivered cross.
HT 1-1
The second half had Dundela pressing but without any clear cut chances while at the other end Knockbreda were looking for a second on the break.
As the game entered the final 10 minutes manager Snodden brought on striker Upton to add impetus to the home attack and was prepared to take chances at the back to chase victory. At one stage as time ticked away goalkeeper Sergeant was the only player defending with all others in or around the away penalty area in an attempt to get that all important goal.
With 4 minutes of added time played the ball was delivered into the box and as a defender tried to clear he seemed to slice the ball straight in Wrights path and bang it was in the back of the net. Players, staff and supporters danced with joy as they knew it was vital to secure the three points.
With 2 games to go Dundela must win both and hope that one or more of their promotion rivals slip up,as Sir Alex Ferguson might say its “squeaky bum time”.
