Dundela 4-0 Portstewart 28/04/2012 Championship2.
The party started down at the Hen Run today when referee Floyd blew the whistle on what was a fantastic finale to the season for Dundela.
Goals from Ben Roy, Stevie McCain and a brace from the lethal Dee Wright saw Dundela triumph and secure a place in Championship 1 next season.
The result was more remarkable as six weeks ago the men from Wilgar were written off after a bad series of results and boy how the players partied after the game.
In the game itself Portstewart gave a creditable performance but to be honest nothing would stop the men in green, champagne flowed from every corner of the ground as players and spectators alike reveled in the moment. Manager Mark Snodden was drowned in bubbly as he led his players from the pitch,a testament to what every one at the club thinks of the big man.
Dundela now look forward to locking horns with the likes of Bangor, Ards, Carrick Rangers and of course H&W Welders next season.
BRING IT ON !!!!!!
If the Dundela players were slightly nervous going on to the pitch it was soon overcome with some superb passing in a display of confidence that has seen them clinch that promotion spot.
From the off they were sharper than the visitors and when Ben Roy fired in the first goal on 17 minutes nothing was going to deny them victory.
The lead was doubled just past the half hour mark when the leagues leading scorer Dee Wright scored, and several other chances were created but no more goals were scored until stoppage time in the half when Stevie McCain netted with a bullet like header.
HT 3-0
Despite the comfortable lead manager Snodden still demanded more from his team and they responded with some sparkling football although they did not score again until 10 minutes from time with Wright’s second of the game.
That goal was the signal for the bubbly to be readied on the sidelines and when the whistle went the celebrations began, champagne corks popped and loud cheers filled the air as players, staff and management went wild with delight.
Credit must also go to Portstewart for their performance, they certainly gave their best but on the day Dundela were just too good.
